Marking the moment in a way that feels right.
Naming ceremonies are a beautiful alternative to religious christenings, offering a relaxed and inclusive way to welcome a new child into your family and community.
Whether you’re celebrating the arrival of a newborn, adopting a child, or blending families, I’ll help you shape a ceremony that’s thoughtful, warm, and personal. One that reflects your values and hopes for the future.
What’s included
What does a naming ceremony involve?
There’s no fixed structure or wording, it’s your ceremony and can be as simple or detailed as you like.
I’ll guide you through the options and help you create something that suits your family and the tone you’re looking for.
You might like to include:
A short welcome message or reading to begin the ceremony, followed by words from parents or guardians that reflect your hopes for the child’s future. Some families like to appoint guide parents or mentors, trusted friends or relatives who will play a supportive role.

Symbolic gestures such as lighting a candle, planting a tree, or creating a memory box can add a meaningful touch, alongside any poems or music that hold special significance for you.
“They will fill your life with sunshine, and your hearts with love”
A family occasion
Naming days can be held at home, in a garden, at a local venue, or anywhere that feels right. Whether it’s a small, private gathering or a bigger celebration, I’ll support you in shaping a day that’s relaxed, genuine and memorable.
This ceremony is also a lovely way to include wider family, siblings, and friends, with the opportunity for others to say a few words or share readings if you wish.
A note on beliefs
Naming ceremonies can be completely non-religious, or they can include words or traditions that reflect your background or beliefs. I’ll work with you to make sure the tone feels right and the wording reflects your values.
If you’re thinking about a naming day or family celebration, I’d be happy to talk things through with you. Whether you have a clear idea or need help getting started, I’m here to help shape the right words for the day.
With Love
